Hi Theresa - >The problem I have is that the address is going to change again. Our >SYSTEM DNS located at our corporate headquarters will now carry the new >address. The question I have is this: if, in the TCP/IP Domain Name I >have our corporate DNS address and the parm HOSTSCHPTY set to *LOCAL, will >OS search my AS/400 TCP/IP host table and then the REAL DNS? The help on >Host name search priority explains the search for *REMOTE that the search >is 1st remote then 2nd local. The help for *LOCAL doesn't mention any >secondary search. Any enlightenment will be greatly appreciated! It's not explicit, but if you read the *LOCAL help right after the *REMOTE help, it is implied that the DNS server(s) specified will be searched after the local host table. I can tell you from personal experience that is in fact the way it works. If *LOCAL is specified, it will look in your local host table first, then look in the DNS server(s) that you have specified.
