CPF5170s make me suspect the network capacity/efficiency. But one of the workarounds would be to use named worksation devices instead of QPADEVs. In that case CPF5170 will make your AS/400 jobs disconnect if your recovery SYSVALs are right with the future reconnect possible, while for QPADEVs each CPF5170 basically kills your job.
