CHGCMDDFT will work until you upgrade. When we encounter this situation for the first time on a box, we create a new library. Call it something like QSYSCUST. We duplicate the command in question into that library. Change the command default there and then place that new library ahead of QSYS in the System portion of the library list. This ensures that you don't hose the new defaults when you upgrade. HOWEVER, if you forget about it and upgrade, you risk a) at least losing some new functionality b) really messing up the system by using old objects.
