Agreed.  I guess it is safe to say that the lower end AS/400's definitely have a
ways to go to compete better.  Sometimes I deal in my own world which is more
medium sized systems.

I can't wait to have the higher Mhz machines.....we get more bang for the buck
and then can actually state our processor speed without hanging our
heads.........

I agree the AS/400 will handle all types of applications,  but to the detriment
of the end user.  We have benchmarked our own Domino Application on the AS/400
against a Dual 500Mhz processor NT machine,  We ran through from a 1 way 170
DSD, a 2 way 170, a 4 way 720, and a 12 way LPAR 740,  this allowed allocation
of a single processor as and when we wanted to increase the performance.   It
was a direct representation that when we reached 4 processors (of 262Mhz) we
matched the performance of the NT machine from both the Server Performance and
the End User response time,  this unfortunately had a cost difference of around,
well lets say if I was a business man and not a techie and you were selling me
an AS/400 to run my applications,  I would tell you to stop taking the drugs.

I also agree that making these comparisons is futile, as we all know that PC
architecture is not the platform to be running your business on,  its just the
fact that these new and upcoming applications(Websphere, JAVA, Domino, ERP)  on
the 400 started from that arena and carry the legacy of it.

When the Two Worlds Meet (Processor speeds and the AS/400(plus a competitive
price)),  You will have a machine that can take on the World.
