Terry,

  Can you Telnet to the AS/400? Can you Telnet to the FTP Port (21)?  Either of
these would tell you that you are getting to the correct system while Ping 
merely
tells you somebody is responding.  It is possible that this new client is
redirecting your internal connections.  Also check NETSTAT *CNN on the AS/400 to
see if your PC is establishing a connection at all.
