That sounds more like the FSIOP.  I think of an MFIOP  (multi-function IOP) as a
card that supports multiple types of work on a single card.  Most cards work for
a single specific funtion - communication, LAN, magnetic media, etc.  Whereas a
MFIOP typically runs magnetic media (disk, tape), LAN, Twinax, and
communications (V.24, v.35), etc.

A Intel base pc card that was designed to run Novell Netware OS and access
AS400 Disk/Printers/Tape devices.  The first was 486/66 processor.  It had a
single Ethernet port that ran at 10M.  You needed an AUI adapter to hook it
to your network.  If was IBM's first attempt at making the AS400 a file
server.
