The MFIOP is the Multi Function Input Output Processor. It is in most, (actually I think it might have been in ALL) models of the AS/400 since day one. It controls most of the "base" features - Workstation controller, load source disk plus some, Optical drive, base communications. On recent models, do a STRSST and drill down to the hardware level to print a rack configuration to see what is attached to your MFIOP.
