IBM offers a data recovery service for $240/hr with a four hour minimum. If the tape was not initialized with the clear option, there is a good chance you will get your data back, except for the first few tape files (depending on their size). The data that has not been physically overwritten is still there, it's a matter of finding the begin file markers and end of file markers, and reconstructing some header information.
