While I am not against certification, it shows a person can memorize
information for a test, I do not feel that certification proves a programmer
has the know how or the instinct to design an application. I have
interviewed several certified professionals, some where well qualified and
others couldn't answer fundametal questions like, "What is the difference
between DOU and DOW?". I have also interviewed college drop-outs that have
taught themselves RPG and have a better understanding of the language and a
greater ability to think outside of the box than than those that were
certified. The long winded point I am trying to get to is this, some people
can do real well on tests, but cann't apply that knowledge in real life
scenerios and others have problems on tests, but can perform extremely well
in business situations. As for certification, use it as a guideline, not as
law.
