It's defeatist all right. Show me where at COMMON there was a glimmer of hope of things changing. IBM figureheads gave all the standard defensive responses. The fundamental problem is the structure of IBM Rochester, and how it splits the AS/400 product development and marketing with Toronto and Raleigh and corporate. You might get some folks in those three or four facilities to accept your call for change, but they still have to operate within the labyrinth of IBM's structure. If you think a committee is a dozen bodies with no brain, what do you think dozens of IBM committees can accomplish? Until there's a figurehead in Rochester who can cut through the noise, leading an AS/400 division that can operate as if it's competing with Sun, Microsoft and HP, instead of with Netfinity and S/390, then nothing, NOTHING will change, IMHO. We've all been complaining about this for YEARS. There's a definition of insanity that states that it's "doing the same thing over and over, and expecting different results." Just a thought... ...
