I thought I understood (from IBM's Debbie Saugen at the last COMMON) that only through the use of BRMS could a save be done in parallel to more than one drive - that is - saving libraries partially to TAP01 and partially to TAP02. The SAVE commands themselves would not support this. (The functionality would also be available via API's). You would not need an equivalent number of drives to perform a restore. The operating system would recognize that more than one tape was used and would handle the requests for swapping the tapes. We have two 3590's available, but under V4R3, cannot use both drives for a SAVLIB(*NONSYS) backup. At which release is there support for using multiple drives during restricted state backups? Also, any details of how it's implemented and benchmarks of time savings would be interesting.
