John, Do you have the right permissions set for the user id you are logging on to the server with? I have seen this before in an NT server environment where you could log on the server, but were not authorized to the directories where you are trying to put stuff. Just because you can log on the server does not mean you have the authority to write or alter the contents of a directory.
