I like fixed length text, but I'm wondering if you might be able to export
the files as DIF or comma delimited.  You won't run into the 240 character
limit, but there may be other problems for your particular situation.
Client Access file transfer handles DIF and csv pretty well.  If you're not
using Client Access, you can ftp a csv file to an ifs file and use
cpyfrmimpf.
