Chuck,

Of course, I don't know all of the facts either. Only what the media has
said.

The hard part of the attack is that it wasn't just from one place. I heard
it was from many (the number 50+ come to mind, but I could be daydreaming)
sources.

3.5 hours might be a long time. I do not know. But I do know it was not
just Yahoo. According to Computer World
(http://www.computerworld.com/home/print.nsf/CWFlash/000210E822 ), eBay,
ZDNet, Buy.com, and eTrade have also been hit.

I also know that Computer world has been VERY slow today...are they getting
Dos'ed? Or is it just everybody looking for articles? Is there a
difference? In either case, they have been unavailable much of the day.

And of course, it is quite possible that these places where "less than fully
prepared" <g>

Bob

Bob,

Curious as to if it IS hard to prevent (NO offense intended) because I have
heard
several folks from security companies saying that there was NO WAY Yahoo
should
have been down for 3 1/2 hours or whatever it was and that those folks that
had
gotten hit by the DoS were asking for it because they had spent all of their
time
on everything BUT good security for things like this. These folks either
didn't
elaborate or what they said wasn't repeated so I wasn't sure on this (?)

Thanks !

Chuck
