Hi Terry, Yes, I have, many years ago, but nothing quite as involved as your example. There tends to be more RPG work out there than COBOL, so those skills are pretty rusty, not to mention that "table" has a whole different meaning after using RPG for so long. But the problem presented on this list seemed like a perfect example of what UNSTRING was made to do, and a lot more understandable (if lengthier) than the PERL example. Your example would do nicely parsing a BASIC sequential file (aka CSV - comma separated values), especially the variety created by MS Excel.
