Perhaps it would be best to NOT send the file to the PC??

Why not use Excel's capability to Get External Data and run a query against
the AS/400?

Or you could use Excel's "Web Query" to access an AS/400 CGI program
(written in RPG) to "squirt" the data directly into your Excel spreadsheet.

As I understand it, there shouldn't be any limit on a record size in Excel,
except that limited by the amount of free disk space and memory.  Anyway,
I have never come across a limit.

There is a limit to the number of records in a spreadsheet though, 65535.
