Real time inventory information at the point of sale is something a lot of
retailers of all sorts don't really have.  

This is something you can deal with through your inventory management
strategy or changing your software.  Opinions differ as to which is better.
Keeping track of inventory isn't ever exact.  The measure of success is a
combination of profit margin and minimizing back orders.  Knowing exactly
what you have on hand at any given moment isn't necessarily as important as
knowing you can fill orders in a reasonable time (immediately is best) and
you're not wasting money on excess inventory.  Not simple.
