But X by itself is pretty unusable. It needs some additional "window manager" on top of that. My point is that when using GUI's such as KDE or OS/2's Workplace Shell, I've never seen much need to enhance the GUI's capabilities with the kind of additional 3rd party utilities that seem so common in the Windows world.
