What tcp/ip address are you using in the STRCODE command? It would be the ip address of your PC, not of the AS/400. IBM claims this is fixed so that STRCODE finds the proper ip address but that isn't my experience. What I do is to first start the Code daemon on the PC, then open a green screen session, log in, set my library lists, etc, and then do the STRCODE command. You need to set your library lists because that is where Code decides what it will let you see on the AS/400. To get the feel for how Code works it isn't necessary to attach to the AS/400. You can do a copy and paste to the editor so you can at least see how the editor works, and see the Help screens, etc. A lot of times doing e-mail here I will open a Code/400 session and start an empty program and then prompt a line so I can read the help about some part of RPG, RPGLE, CL, or DDS. My version is licensed but I see no reason why the trial version wouldn't work forever for that purpose. _______________________ Booth Martin boothm@earth.goddard.edu http://www.spy.net/~booth _______________________ "Peter Dow" <pcdow@yahoo.com> Sent by: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com 01/07/2000 08:08 PM Please respond to MIDRANGE-L To: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> cc: Subject: CODE/400 and STRCODE problems Hi, I just downloaded the trial version of CODE/400 and am attempting to connect to an AS/400. When I do a File, Open, I get a window showing the AS/400 to which I want to connect, but when I try to expand it, it starts the CODE daemon on port 4200 and then goes away. No fuss, no muss, just disappears. There was also something about starting the server on the AS/400 with the STRCODE command. I tried that and got the following 3 messages: Default information for STRCODE not found. A TCP/IP communications error occurred. Unable to start TCP/IP connection with the workstation. I get these even if I specify all the parameters. What am I missing?
