<I find it hard to justifykeeping existing code in RPGIII let alone doing new development in it.> I agree. Prior to this Y2K problem, you could justify having to keep it around in order to maintain prior versions of our software for accounts that haven't upgraded. With Y2K, everybody has to upgrade, or move to another system.
