My point may be invalid, but it's true.

So what have we learned?
That this list is full of good consultants, as one would expect...
That the buyer must beware...
That you get what you pay for...
That expectations should be clearly defined...
That consultants should be managed, not handed the keys...
And finally, that I wasn't very smart to vent about this in this forum!!
=)

So where's the problem?  Well, perhaps the problem often is that consultants
are brought in many times to do work the MIS staff just doesn't have time
for.  And therefore, due to said lack of time (read resources), much of the
above can sometimes be overlooked.  I know, I've seen it... over and over...
and then the programming staff are the ones who have to live with the
result... thereby further increasing their workload.  Well, if that were
true, it would all come back to the point I wanted to make in the first
place... MIS should be viewed as an integral part of your corporate
strategy, NOT as overhead to be minimized as much as possible.  Maybe I'll
just go back to sleep... if someone will wake me up the day that comes!!
