Folks are using our Alliance SerialConnect product to connect scales to the AS/400 over a TCP/IP ethernet network and driving the read of the scale from their 5250 session. This is a little different than connecting the scales to the PC, so I'm not sure if that's what you are really looking for. More information here: http://www.patownsend.com.
