Re[4]: new display file features; was "4 - subfiles"

     Actually, it's pretty simple in concept. 1 byte character field for 
     input, auto-record-advance. Each character is the appended to the end 
     of the filter (which is displayed on the SFL header record), then 
     reload the SFL (page at a time only) applying the new filter. The only 
     real problem is providing for backspace. I couldn't figure out any way 
     to capture the backspace or delete keys. I ended up having to use the 
     HOME key to simulate the backspace. That's the only real 
     disappointment I had with this program.

That is interesting!  What is the algorithym that makes it work keystroke 
by keystroke?  That means a "position to" filed can be an automagic field?

     Actually, I recently wrote a SFL display program that works like a 
     "shrinking listbox" (my terminology) where the subfile is filtered on 
     
     each keystroke. It actually works reasonably well, given certain 
     limitations. I used it to support an online glossary of medical terms 
     
     which our users can insert into text fields.
