>I'm an old guy. I didn't respond before because... well.. why bother? The >discrimination is there and isn't going to go away. I think part of the problem with age-ism is that the MIS/IS/IT department head/vp/executive vp is some guy whose younger than the staff to be managed. And some people just don't have the skills to deal with that kind of a relationship. Another part is that a young 'hot-shot' manager gets the impression that if you're still in a 'menial' job such as programming or system support and you're old, you 'obviously' have nothing on the ball or you'd be manager yourself. As an 'older' system tech support analyst, I don't -want- the headaches of a manager's position. What manager gets to play with the toys, and learn the machinery? My boss does a marvelous job of running intereference with management, and doesn't get to play as much as he used to. [He has to keep his hand in; our staff has been pruned to the bone...] I just wish some people would figure out how to identify good talent when it's dangled in front of their faces. --Paul E Musselman PaulMmn@ix.netcom.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
