I work with installs of our software and I have found that most problem issues are related to software set up and data loading. Set up involves end users and install consultants getting all the screen entry fields in place correctly. Data loading involves legacy data being formatted and loaded into the files correctly and then run with the correct set up in place. Problems can arise from many factors such as: sales says something like "The AS/400 runs itself, you don't need IS people!"; the consultants are put on a job with little or no training on a product or sometimes the platform; failure of users to get behind an implementation; and I also believe that some people don't read the manual. Of course, some software and some software support is simply better.
