HTML is a standard developed not by Mircrosoft. Once it's in HTML, it will be 98% standard across browsers. The HTML keywords are not different from platform to platform. If they were, everyone's page who used FrontPage would be wacky except for people running IE. Javascript, on the other hand, is the least compliant amoung browsers, but the differences are small and You can create Javascript by saving a word document to HTML Microsoft does use proprietary code in HTML, but they appear as comments and don't affect other browsers because of this.
