This past weekend, 8/21/99, we upgraded a production system to V4R4 from
V4R2, it is working great and will upgrade others to V4R4 this year. If you
have a lot of objects in IFS directories (we have 500000+) add 5 hours
during the OS upgrade step, the process touches each object. Also, if you
use queries/SQL over large indexes(LFs) read the "Memo to Users" document
page 26 section: Data Area QQQOTIONS No longer Supported; not setting this
new control file, QAQQINI, correctly will result in performance problems
with queries/SQL. Also with this release one should consider rebuilding
your access path sizes from 4GB to 1TB for Logicals to gain performance
improvements within the UDB.

There is no reason to wait to install V4R4. We've been running it for
months, and like what we see. It was not as stable at the outset as V4R3,
but it likely that no release of OS/400 will ever be as stable at day 0 as
V4R3. Today, in production, it would seem to be as stable as V4R3.
