So you are inside a program and don't want to leave that program?

Here is how I use to code it:

You need two fields from file information data structure: Member and 'File open
y/n'.
Also u code UC in the F-spec.

Then a SR called USEMBR doing this (written for universal use - blackbox-like):

Test File Open for *ON (remember when never opened the switch is blank, not '0')
Test open file member name.
If needed do a CLOSE to the file
Build a string with the command OVRDBF MBR() and send it to QCMDEXC. There is a
speciel thing by this call that the override works
for current RPG-program (doing a call to an CLP wouldn't work until we got
OVRSCOPE versions ago which is why I still use QCMDEXC).
Just like OVRSCOPE(*CALLLVL).
Do an OPEN

As I never know what I am doing I like this SR: Don't care about current
status. An EXSR USEMBR will garantee that you are working
on the correct member no matter what.

In RPG400 I am wanting to do an override on a physical file to a specific
member when outputting to the file. Here is the kicker that I don't know how
to handle. There are 16 different members and I don't want to have to hard
code each override in the program. Is there any way of overriding to a
member to &MEMBER (varies each record output). One time the override may be
for "SAM" and the next record may be for "JACK".

Thanks for any help
