By memory, 370/390/3090/(all that big behemoth shit) uses different conventions for the signed half byte in packed data. The AS/400 interprets this correctly, and updates it when handling any specific field. Math, sorting, etc. all works correctly. Be careful. These systems are highly tolerant of decimal data errors, and the AS/400 is not.
