No, you are not wrong. A fact that many people tends to forget (or have never 
learned - it was basic when you needed to know that
old RPG-cycle)) is that fields from externally defined files are just as 
internal as fields defined all in RPG. It's only the
declaration that is external. A 'CHAIN' for exampel first fills a buffer (you 
can see it in a formatted dump, called for example
ZZ01BIN) and then moves from the buffer to internal fields (for get) or reverse 
(for put).

I could be wrong (no, not me), but I think if the field names are the same
you wouldn't have to code the moves.  You could prefix or rename the two
fields that have to be changed.
