Yes, but understand what you are REALLY trying to do with an index is tune the performance, and what you do with a view is akin to security. They are two different things that AS/400 people see as one. In SQL, you do not specify the index you are going to use. You ask for the data and get the data. If (and that can be a big if) the index is there, then performance will be good.
