One of the comments I find missing from this conversation is the goal of the testing and certifications. All conversation seems to be for "go/no-go" testing while the real need is for testing that portrays the candidate's knowledge accurately at what ever level it is. Whether certification becomes a series of badges and short courses and tests, or remains a monolithic "you are wonderful/you are stupid" signal, then certification serves no useful purpose in a real world.
