How about when the job to be monitored is running, it creates a record in a physical file, and then locks it? The job wanting to check the monitor attempts to lock the same record. If the record is not found, or the record is not locked, the other job must not be active. I think ODBC can call a stored procedure, so the stored procedure on the 400 would attempt to lock up the record, and if it succeeds, unlock the record and return a 'TRUE' value, if not, a 'FALSE' value. One of our FoxPro developers is rewriting part of our EDI system. He needs a method to check if a process is active. He has requested that this be an ODBC solution (no ADO). The only idea I've had that seems plausible is a log file that stores job starting and ending timestamps for the process he wants to monitor. Any other ideas? Please respond to the following address as I'm taking a few days off for my wedding. All ideas are appreciated.
