The dial up to the ISP is the easy part - the mail delivery may be more
difficult. Do you intend your ISP to hold all company mail in a single
mailbox and then do you need to pull all mail down from this mailbox for
local distribution by the AS/400 SMTP server? The other option is for
the ISP to treat your AS/400 as a disconnected SMTP server. Now unless
things have changed with the AS/400 SMTP server recently (I don't like
it so I don't use it) you've got a problem. For scenario 1 you need to
have a POP client that will poll the mailbox, pull mail and then forward
it to the AS/400 server. If you want to do this from your AS/400 you'll
either need to write this yourself or buy a product that can do this
(naturally I know of one :-). Your alternative is to use a product like
VPOP on a PC to do this. For scenario 2 (which is a little more risky
because you have to ensure you dial your ISP regularly to avoid mail
delivery failures) you'll need a feature called TURN or ETRN that I
don't believe the 400 SMTP server supports. MS Exchange does support
this. Again if you need to do this on the 400 then I know of a company
that has a cheap little ETRN module.
