It sounds from what you are saying that you are using the FTP client
program on the 400 to connect to the FTP server program on the same
400.  Then, you're asking the 400 FTP server program to go get a file
off of pc02.

I don't think that the 400 can access files on other computers this
way.  It would have to be using something like NetServer but that only
goes the other way around -- it allows PC clients to access AS/400
shared directories and output queues.

In order to do what you want, you'll have to install an FTP server
program on a PC platform that has access to all of the PCs that you need
to get files from.  I think an FTP server program comes with WinNT if
you have one of those boxes.  Otherwise, you can go somewhere like:

        http://www.winfiles.com/apps/98/servers-ftp.html

and get some free FTP servers.
