Re: Any takers? Repeat: Client Access Licensed Programs

Ok, Let's clear this one up for good. Many of you have responded and
have mostly gotten all the right answers but not all at the same time.

First:

 Alexei is right that no part of CA MUST exist on the AS/400 for CA to
work with that AS/400.  Without CA installed on the AS/400 you cannot
install CA from that AS/400 nor can you use the Service check to
download PTFs to Client Access from that AS/400.

 For TCP/IP Connections, Alexei is right again as he stated the Host
Servers take care of most of the communications on the AS/400 side. 
You will need to install 57xx-TC1 to provide support for 5250 sessions
which are Telnet connections under TCP/IP.

 For SNA connections TC1 is not needed as 5250 sessions are supported
as passthru devices.

 As for License requirements for the PC Side:

 For All Clients you NEED a license for File Transfer or for 5250
sessions-display or print. (Only one needed per PC even if BOTH File
Transfer and 5250 are used).  The exception is that no license is
allocated if the PC is connected as the operations console for the
AS/400.  This license is added via WRKLICINF for 57xx-XW1 feature
5050.

 NO License is needed for anything else, including Operations
Navigator, ODBC, Operations Console, Printer Drivers (Printing to
AS/400 printers), or remote command functions.

 I had no idea there was much confusion out there about IBM's flagship
connectivity product!
