I use the AS/400 Firewall, including the ability it has to be a proxy
server. I am at V4R2, so you should have even more ability at V4R3. The next
few comments sounds pretty negative, but I really am fairly pleased with the
function. I just am voicing my experience.

I had trouble setting up the firewall. In fact, I had several different IBM
and a 3rd party support people help before I finally got it nailed down.
Some of the functionality is improved in V4R3, and I look forward to getting
to V4R4 from what I have heard. Some of the problems I had in configuration
dealt with using email, including Domino.

Using the proxy server, I do have a problem with MS Internet Explorer
versions 4 & 5 though. My problem deals with what I have heard called
"cached graphics", but I do not understand it. Graphics appear broken
(little red x), and sometimes pages refuse to load until the local PC cache
is cleared. This problem does not manifest itself if the proxy is not used,
an earlier version than 4 of Internet Explorer is used, or if I use
Netscape. Microsoft has tried to help. I get tired of hearing about charges
for IBM help on the firewall, so I haven't even tried them this time.

I also have some concerns about what it is doing to performance, but do not
have a clear understanding of that just yet.

I apologize for the long answer, but I hope you can avoid the problems.
Again, I am fairly pleased with the product despite my trouble. It doesn't
help that I am an AS/400 newbie ;-)
