Absolutely.

In the normal course of events, your computer makes internal logs of
problems and errors. Many of these logs are only accessible from SST/DST.
If you run the system normally with the date set forward, loggings will be
made with that new (fictitious) date. Once you have dates it back, this
will cause havoc for service people, and for the system itself.

There is a page at IBM's site that discusses this, but I am responding in
off-line mode, and cannot validate it. My bookmark says that it is:

http://www.softmall.ibm.com/as400/year2000/y2sysdat.html

(If this is incorrect, send me private mail, and I will trace it down when
I am once again on-line, and re-post.)

Print it out, take it into the bathroom for a good long sit-down. It will
scare the @#$% out of you.
