Joe, there are several TN5250 applications available, even in java.  I used 
Hummingbird's for awhile and that was smooth; not free though.  Right now I am 
using the Client Access Express Beta from IBM's client access web site.  It is 
free, it is tcp/ip only, it is easy to set up and install, and it is fast.
