I would .... GO SAVE then #21(save entire system) With this option you would be able to restore a single obj or lib. The savstg would be an ALL OR NOTHING restore. figure 25-30min per tape ---------- From: Stephanie Coulshaw To: 'midrange' Subject: Backup Info needed Date: Monday, April 12, 1999 1:06PM I have here an AS/400 9404 B10 with an ancient version of the operating system (V2R1M0) running MAPICS. I have suspected for some time that the 'backup' procedure that I have instructions for doesn't actually do a complete backup, but backs up the master files only (I use the Cross Application Support program to do this). I would like to do a COMPLETE system backup, including the operating system, configuration, etc. Would I use the SAVSTG command to do this? I have 3 disk drives - 2 type 6100 and 1 type 6105 (Total 950MB capacity). They are 70% used. I have 1 tape drive - the tapes it uses are type DC 6150 of 120MB capacity. I have determined from this that I'll need 7 tapes to do the job - Any idea how long this might take? There are assorted tapes lying around here, most have IBM type labels on them and I'll leave them alone, but there are some that look like they were purchased blank. There is minimal labeling on these so I'd like to find out what is on these tapes before I use them. Is there a command that will read a tape and give me a directory of its contents? Can I direct the output of this command to a print file? Is it possible to run a test restoration without overwriting the system? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
