If a programmer came into our shop and had never "wasted" any time learning the cycle, that person would be in big trouble the minute they hit the legacy code we have to support. Like the cycle or not, use it or not in your own programs from scratch, you had *better* know it if you want to work here, because the FACT is that many programs use it, and no, we're not going to go and rewrite all of them just because someone is too laz-, er, I mean, too "modern" to learn something as simple as the cycle. I agree with an earlier post. Anyone who doesn't know the cycle should not call themselves an RPG programmer. In my opinion, that would be as bad as someone claiming to be a C programmer without understanding pointers.
