It is interesting to me.

On one project I was on we had to convert a large number of files for Y2K which
in that case meant checking dates for validity and then adding the century to
the valid dates and zeroing the invalid date fields. For this project we did
copy file, *map, *drop, and then used RPGLE with Input primary and Input
secondary and even record id's to validate dates and add the century in each
file, one after another. The project testing and conversion went smoothly,
quickly, and accurately even though there was hundreds of files.

On another project it was decided to do the same copy file process, but to use
SQL to update the files. I am anxious to see how it will turn out. So far one
can not use the terms "smoothly" or "quickly." To me at least, the cycle
solution seems to be the hands-down winner.
