It depends on a workload. If you can divide your jobs into groups with
clearly different behaviour, then manual tuning will usually produce better
result.
If your mixture is a kind of "fuzzy", without sharp distinction between
different job types, then let it autotune itself - it can do a real good
job.

Subject:  Autotune?






To autotune or not to autotune, that is my question. We have an S20 with 20
user license. Some experienced hands have told me no way, no how, let it
autotune and we have done some tweaks to adjust the system pools. Some
others say that the new RISC boxes do a good job of it.

Opinions?
