I've lost the reference to the original poster of this message so I'll have to send this to the list. The reply I got from COBOL development acknowledges that the ILE COBOL behavior is the correct one. They believe that the original error in OPM may have been caused by the retrofit of END-IF to the compiler when moving to ANSI '85 when the 400 first came out in '88. Because they can't "fix" this kind of bug due to compatibility issues (i.e. existing programs would screw up when recompiled) they would like to issue an information APAR and possibly document the incompatibility. To do this it would be much easier if the original customer reporting the problem to this list would report it to IBM support. I know this sounds silly, but it's the best way to ensure that all of the support databases get updated with the information. So - could you please contact IBM support and if they make life difficult refer them to Ian Johnstone of the COBOL team in Toronto. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
