This cannot be simply quantified.  It can occur for a number of reasons.

That is one possible factor but only indirectly - the number of fields is likely
to be more of a problem.

Another possibility as is the number of literals.


JDE constantly have problems with this themselves as they add function to the
system.  I keep hoping that they will see the light and convert to RPG IV, but
that doesn't seem to be happening.  Many of the middle tier vendors are making
the switch - perhaps the "big boys" will be persuaded when they start to lose
business ?

Converting to RPG IV (CVTRPGSRC) is probably the best way to go - it should not
suffer the size problems.
