My experiences of Aldon CMS are not good, but this may be due to a poor
implementation at our site. Here are my two cents-worth:
a) When promoting to production, Aldon CMS does not build/compile its
objects into a 'holding library' and, once complete, move them into the
final librar(ies). We've had several cases of partial promotions due to an
abnormal termination of the promotion. Had Aldon created a 'holding'library,
we would not have ended up with a corrupted production environment.
b) It's not clear when Aldon preserves data in a promotion to production: in
the case of new files containing data you want to keep, you invariably have
to copy it manually into production once the file has been promoted (empty).
c) Poor support for retaining 'Creation Options' (compile parameters) on
promotion to production and poorly designed database for generic creation
options. Options are cannot be additive down the heirarchy. Some objects
such as printer files do retain their attributes when checked out again from
production, others do not. ILE Binding Directories can be specified on a
separate panel for programs, but generic creation options override even
these explicitly specified attributes.
d) When checking out a logical file, the based-on physical is annoyingly
created also in the development library. This seems to be incorrect.

Aldon CMS does have an excellent consistent user-interface however.
