While I disagree that writing CGI programs is cumbersome to program (cumbersome only in that ILE RPG, while way ahead of RPG/400, is still pretty crappy!), you make an interesting case for Java as a rational alternative for this task. How is the Java servlets' performance for you on the AS/400? Appropriate? (must be).
