David... I'ld get a BARE BONES system, with all the IOP's and dev's that you would need...and make sure it has enough card slots for all the devices you want to hang on it...slap a ethernet card in it so you can program it from another existing box (no additional compilers, etc)...make sure you have enough CPU and CORE to get the throughput you want...the smaller the CPU the better...and I'ld tend to be current on the O/S...not because of not being able to copy tapes (I think DUPTAP can do damn near anything!...even mainframe stuff!), but because I prefer to not have to remember how I did things back 10 years ago... Slap a Dec Dta 486 series terminal on it (they can run 3 sessions from 1 device) and it will serve as console and 2 additional terminals and you can ether the world from there...
