John, In a message dated 98-08-11 21:31:54 EDT, you write: > How many of you think it would benefit having affinity between the AS/400 > and Linux ? > Maybe as a supported client? Maybe on the IPCS? > Would it give the AS/400 a different "Feel" to the non-AS/400 crowd? Hmmm, hard to say. This list runs on Linux, and one of the articles we've been so kindly referred to lately even mentioned that Windoze has never been as stable as either OS/2 _OR_ Linux. In my experience, I've not seen Linux in a business environment -- SCO seems to be the lowest common denominator. This _DOES_ raise an interesting question, however. What if IBM were to introduce a "roll your own" version of the IPCS? They'd give you the card and the tools to load it, but assume no responsibility over what happened because of what you ran on it. Heck, we could end up with the first viable AS/400 Java applications written for the IPCS under Linux -- Internet folks made both Linux _and_ Java popular, ya' know! Interesting proposition...
