I have used the Broderick package between an AS/400 and mainframe.
On the AS/400 side it had its on subsystem called BDS where a job ran for
every remote writer defined in Broderick. There were two controllers
that communicated withe the mainframe via LAN. Each remote writer had a
device id attached to one of the controllers. On the mainframe side the
device id and remote writer id much match with the AS/400 for Broderick to
work correctly.
The reason why Broderick was used, instead of TCP/IP and SNDNETSPLF is
because when an AS/400 output went to the mainframe, the job attributes
(job name and number) were rather generic, i.e. job name=AS400001, job
number=JOB02414, the user id it would keep.
